New members sworn in for Council of Yukon First Nations leadership
New CYFN Leadership Elder and Youth leaders were acclaimed and sworn in Friday following an election call issued by the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN).
James Allen, a Champagne and Aishihik First Nation citizen and Elder was sworn in for a second term to occupy the CYFN Leadership Elder position.
Liard First Nation member Nikita Sawrenko-Bailey was sworn in to the Leadership Youth position.
CYFN would like to acknowledge Morris Morrison, Selkirk First Nation citizen for his service in previous terms as CYFN Leadership Youth and wish him well in his future endeavours.
The Leadership Elder and Youth bring their respective generational perspectives to the CYFN Leadership table and serve a three-year term.
Grand Chief Peter Johnston says “the CYFN Leadership Elder and Youth positions play a key role in terms of making space at the leadership table to bring forward an important lens for elders and youth, in keeping with Yukon First Nations culture.”
