CYFN and community members walk to raise awareness for those affected by the opioid crisis
WHITEHORSE – The continuing opioid crisis calls for the Council of Yukon First Nations to raise awareness in support for those affected by the opioid crisis.
A walk for support and solidarity for those affected by the impacts of the opioid crisis took place on March 23, 2023, across Yukon communities.
In Whitehorse, Grand Chief Peter Johnston made his speech in front of the RCMP Headquarters in the downtown core, along with Council of Yukon First Nations dignitaries. Yukon Priemer Ranj Pillai was also at the RCMP station for the demonstrations put on.
Yukoners then walked to the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre to light a sacred fire.
Similar walks and fires occurred in Mayo and Dawson City at the same time.
This is not the first time this event has taken place as, in the past several years, CYFN continued to raise awareness for the issue.
