Whitehorse, YT – Yukon Finance Minister Sandy Silver is calling for collaboration with the Federal Government regarding the future of Yukon’s carbon rebate program after all major political parties indicate plans to end or overhaul Canada’s consumer carbon pricing program.
In a statement, Silver noted that this shift would halt the revenues supporting Yukon’s carbon rebate program.
Silver wrote to the federal government calling for collaboration for a “systemic wind-down” of the program and a cancellation of a planned carbon levy increase scheduled for April.
“The Government of Yukon is calling for immediate discussions with federal officials to plan for these changes and ensure that Yukoners are not left behind as Canada shifts its approach to fighting climate change,” says Silver in a statement.
