Whitehorse, YT – Biathlon Yukon will soon have a new $2.9 million facility, thanks to joint funding from the federal and territorial governments, with the building set to open ahead of the 2026 Arctic Winter Games.
The new facility will replace Biathlon Yukon’s current building, which the Yukon Government notes has reached the end of its life cycle.
The modernized space will offer expanded areas, improved accessibility and upgraded water and heating systems. It will also feature better parking and traffic flow, addressing the growing demand for the sport and preparing the organization for events like the 2026 Arctic Winter Games.
Biathlon Yukon is a volunteer-run non-profit that has been developing the sport in the territory since 1985.
The federal government is contributing $2.2 million through the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure Stream, with the Yukon Government adding nearly $737,000.
