WHITEHORSE, YT – The Yukon Government has announced a new virtual training program available for Licensed Practical Nurses in the Territory, offered in partnership with the University of New Brunswick.
UNB is now offering their LPN-BN Nursing Pathway via the ‘Learn where you live’ model to Yukon LPNs. Through the program, LPNs currently employed in the Territory can pursue a Bachelor of Nursing entirely online. The program utilizes a mix of virtual reality and in-person clinical simulations. Graduates of the program will be fully qualified to work as Registered Nurses.
The Yukon Government has offered to cover one-third of tuition costs for Yukoners, and has encouraged healthcare employers to offer an additional third, with the expectation that those enrolled in the program would pay the remainder. The Government says that in return, those who graduate from the program would be expected to work as a Registered Nurse in the Yukon’s public sector.
So far, 17 Yukon LPNs have already signed up for the 2024 intake, with 20 more expected to begin in the fall of next year.
