Whitehorse, YT – The temporary recycling depot at Whitehorse’s Waste Management Facility is now open for business five days before Raven ReCentre’s final day of accepting paper and packaging.
The depot, operated by Whitehorse Blue Bin, charges $1 per bag for recycling and materials will be sorted into mixed paper and mixed containers.
The fee marks a departure from the free drop-off service operated by Raven ReCentre. Their last day accepting paper and packing is September 15th.
Starting in December, Whitehorse Blue Bin will also be operating a temporary curbside recycling service for households already receiving the city’s waste collection service.
There will be a monthly fee of $12.50.
A permanent recycling plan is still in the works. In 2025, under Extended Producer Responsibility regulations that the Yukon Government adopted, companies that produce packaging will fund recycling services, eventually getting rid of fees.
The Waste Management Facility is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.
