WHITEHORSE, YT – There was a Moose on the loose in Downtown Whitehorse today.
Shortly before 2pm, a juvenile moose was spotted near the vicinity of 5th Avenue and Hanson Street.
Conservation Officers and an RCMP officer were immediately dispatched to the scene. After a short time, and some light encouragement, the juvenile moose made it’s way back to the woods where it belongs. The situation was resolved without any injuries to the moose, or the public.
Conservation Officers say the moose has moved into the green space along the clay cliffs, and they will continue to monitor the animal and it transits through the urban area.
COs have asked the public to respect the animals space, and to keep away from the area. Motorists have been asked to slow down and remain vigilant while passing through the area. The public has been asked to avoid using local trails in this part of downtown for the time being.
If you spot the moose, be sure to give it a wide berth, and report the encounter to the TIPP line at 1-800-661-0525.
