WHITEHORSE, YT – The RCMP have released more details relating to a serious MVI along the Alaska Highway on the morning of Thursday, June 13th, which had resulted in an extended closure of the Alaska Highway from Two Mile Hill to Centennial Street in Porter Creek.
The Whitehorse RCMP have confirmed that at 8:33am they responded to reports of a cyclist struck by a vehicle near the vicinity of Rabbits Foot Canyon section of the Alaska Highway.
RCMP say the the vehicle involved did not remain at the scene, and they are now investigating the incident as a hit and run.
The Whitehorse RCMP are searching for a Black Chrysler 300, or a similar vehicle, with damage to its front end. They say if you see this vehicle do not approach, and contact the RCMP immediately at 867-667-5555. Anyone with information on the incident, or anyone who may have witnessed the hit and run has been asked to contact the Whitehorse RCMP. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
The Alaska Highway has reopened as of 2:45pm, Thursday, June 13th.
There is currently no word on the condition of the cyclist.
