Donated medical supplies for the UCAY aid mission
WHITEHORSE, YT – Two members of the Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon have set off on a humanitarian aid delivery to Ukraine.
UCAY President Jeff Sloychuk and fellow board member Taras Yurkiv are now deep in the heart of Ukraine, and they’ve just successfully completed a delivery of medical supplies and antibiotics to the Yuzhnoukrainsk Municipal Hospital in Central Ukraine.

Upon their Arrival in Yuzhnoukrainsk, the pair met with the Director of the Municipal Hospital, Dr. Sergei Lupov, who accepted the handover of the donated medical supplies from the Yukon Hospital Corporation. Dr. Lupov says the supplies will be quickly processed and distributed to hospital staff starting next week. He also had a message for Yukoners, delivered via UCAY’s Taras Yurkiv who acted as translator:
“We cordially are thankful that in such difficult times for us they help us and they are profoundly interested in what’s going on in Ukraine. The warmth of heart that they give us is highly appreciated truly our thankfulness does not have limits” – Dr. Sergei Lupov, Director of Yuzhnoukrainsk Municipal Hospital.
Dr Lupov adds, when the war is over, Yuzhnoukrainsk will not forget about the support Yukonners have shown them, and he looks forward to the day when Yuzhnoukrainsk Municipal Hospital can share their experiences in Healthcare with us.
As for Jeff and Taras, they say they’ve been running on coffee and adrenaline since touching down in the Netherlands earlier this week, and they’ve been dealing with logistical challenges since their plane first touched down in the European Union. The pair say they’re looking forward to a much needed night of rest before heading off to Chortkiv, the final destination for their 4×4 Medivac Vehicle, purchased thanks to fundraising support from the Whitehorse Firefighters Charity.
On Sunday they will arrive in Chortkiv, Ukraine to something of an official hero’s welcome, and during the public event, Jeff and Taras will officially hand over the keys of the 4×4 to Chortkiv’s Mayor Volodymyr Shmatko, wrapping up their personal delivery to Whitehorse’s Sister City.
