Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Department of Education has revealed that criminal charges, including being in possession of child pornography, have been laid against an individual who worked as a teacher on call in Whitehorse area schools.
The accused has not been working in the school system since October 24, 2023, immediately following the Department’s awareness of the allegations against the individual.
Over the past five years, the accused has worked at various schools including FH Collins Secondary, Golden Horn Elementary, Christ the King Elementary, Porter Creek Secondary, Jack Hulland Elementary, École Whitehorse Elementary, and Holy Family Elementary.
The Yukon Education Minister Jeanie McLean acknowledged the potential emotional impact on students, parents and the school community and said they are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students. The Government said that the Safer Schools Action Plan, which features process and policy changes to improving education institutions, will continue to be a priority.
