WHITEHORSE – The Whistle Bend Elementary School is becoming a reality for Yukoners.
Whistle Bend Elementary School, Whitehorse’s first new elementary school in more than 20 years, will open in August 2024 for the 2024-25 school year. The school’s opening is still being planned, and families residing in the Whistle Bend Elementary School attendance area can now confirm their enrolment interest through an online form.
The Whistle Bend Elementary School attendance area encompasses the Whistle Bend suburb as well as the region north of Takhini’s softball fields. Families in this area have three enrolment choices. These selections are determined by where their children are enrolled for the next 2023-24 school year and the grade level they will be in when the new school opens for the 2024-25 school year.
For students entering grades 1 through 7 in August 2024, the enrolment options are:
– New enrolment at Whistle Bend Elementary School.
– Continuing enrolment in a French Immersion program, Catholic Education program or a school operated by a school board (Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon or First Nation School Board).
– For students entering Grades 6 and 7 in August 2024, continuing enrolment at their 2023-24 school until they enter secondary school.
Students who have more than one home address are expected to attend a school in their primary home address’s attendance region. The registration process for kids entering Kindergarten at Whistle Bend Elementary School in August 2024 is the same as for all Kindergarten programs.
