Team Yukon won 38 medals at the 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax from July 15 to 23
YUKON – The 2023 North American Indigenous Games have wrapped up in Halifax.
In the final day of action, Team Yukon kept busy winning the last few medals. The territory ended up winning 38 medals, 19 gold, 10 silver, and 9 bronze.
Team Yukon’s 3D Archers brought home four medals. Phoenix Widney took first place in the 19U female barebow division. Widney advanced to the semifinals after winning a shoot-off to break a 28-28 draw. Mya Wilson earned bronze in the U16 female barebow event after hitting the mark. Dawson Widney took bronze in the 19U male barebow class, and Kael Epp advanced through the semis and into the gold medal final in the U16 compound, where he took silver.
U19 men shooters Josh Jackson and Justin Johnson won the prone competition on the rifle range. Johnson shot 395, while Jackson shot 399. The Yukon team was far ahead of their rival rifle shooters, finishing third with a score of 271. The total results, which include athletes’ scores from all contests, are now available. Jorja Jackson was awarded silver, Alex LeBarge was awarded bronze, Ava Irving-Staley and Justin Johnson were awarded gold, and Josh Jackson was awarded silver.
Cullen Sias was the lone member of the athletics squad participating on the track. Sias finished sixth in the U14 2K cross-country race with a time of 7:52.
