Whitehorse, YT – The City of Whitehorse has temporarily closed parts of the East Airport Access Road Trail due to localized erosion of the escarpment caused by spring snowmelt.
The closures, which include several small connector trails, are a precaution to keep the public safe during spring freshet. The Black Street stairs remain open.
The city is actively monitoring the escarpment with slope scanners, drone surveys and regular engineering inspections to track water seepage and reduce the risk of landslides.
Trail access and traffic flow may change as escarpment monitoring continues.
