April 8th Update: The maintenance work has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances and will be rescheduled for a later date.
Whitehorse, YT – Northwestel is advising residents of Copper Ridge and McIntyre to prepare for planned cable service outages this week that could impact calling 9-1-1.
Network maintenance is scheduled for early Tuesday, April 8th in Copper Ridge, from midnight to 4 a.m., and on Wednesday, April 9th in McIntyre, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During these windows, cable internet and cable home phone services may be temporarily disrupted. Those using cable home phone may be unable to reach 9-1-1 for up to two hours.
Northwestel recommends that residents first try calling 9-1-1 as service may still work depending on timing and location. If the call doesn’t go through they recommend using a landline or mobile phone.
In an emergency, residents can also approach a Community Safety Officer or emergency vehicle for help. Medical emergencies may be taken directly to Whitehorse General Hospital. Police assistance is available at the Whitehorse RCMP detachment.
