Whitehorse, YT – The Whitehorse waterfront will be home to a new convention centre due to a $75 million joint investment between the federal and Yukon governments.
The Yukon Gathering Place will be built next to the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre and will accommodate up to 1,000 people for conferences, meetings and major events.
Officials say the project will expand Whitehorse’s capacity to host large gatherings, attract visitors and strengthen the local economy. The Government of Canada is contributing $56.25 million with Yukon covering the remaining cost.
Once complete the centre will be owned by the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and operated by Chu Níikwän Limited Partnership and the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.
