Whitehorse, YT – The Government of Canada and Yukon signed a $9.5 million pharmacare agreement to provide universal access to contraceptive and diabetes medications for Yukoners over four years.
Under the agreement, more than 12,000 Yukoners will gain access to contraceptives while over 3,000 residents living with diabetes can access essential medications at little or no cost. The coverage will be available to residents starting no later than January 2026.
This move follows the passing of the Pharmacare Act in October 2024 which has already led to similar agreements in other provinces including Manitoba, British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
