Whitehorse, YT – Some of the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) top talent is coming to Whitehorse this fall for the WHL Yukon Showcase.
The Medicine Hat Tigers and Kelowna Rockets will face off in a pair of exhibition games on September 12th and 13th at Takhini Arena.
The event will feature Whitehorse’s own Gavin McKenna playing in front of a hometown crowd – an opportunity Yukon Showcase co-chairs Scott Kent and Bernie Adilman say fans won’t want to miss.
“I think it’s gonna be the best hockey we’ve seen here since 2011 when the Blazers and Giants came up and played their regular season game,” said Kent.
Proceeds will go to the Yukon Kids Recreation Fund which helps local families cover sports fees and equipment costs. Organizers are also planning a hockey clinic to engage young players from across the territory.
With WHL rosters still taking shape, fans can expect fast-paced, hard-hitting action as players fight for their spots.
“There’s jobs on the line for these kids to play for. They’re going to be wanting to show stuff so it’s going to be good hockey,” said Adilman. “They’re going to be working hard.”
Tickets go on sale this Friday at buy.tixx.ca/yukon.
