WHITEHORSE, YT – The Yukon Hospital Corporation has confirmed that surgeries planned for Thursday, February 5th, at Whitehorse General Hospital have been postponed, as the Hospital is still unable to properly clean and reprocess it’s surgical instruments.
There has been some progress since Monday however, Whitehorse General Hospital is now able to reprocess medical scopes, and as such, scope procedures will proceed as planned in the days ahead, including on Thursday, February 5th.
The Hospital Corporation had earlier shared with the public that they are currently not able to sterilize their tools to the proper standard, adding that they do not yet know what’s causing the issue, and have no timeline for a full resolution.
Communications staff confirmed that between 25 to 30 surgeries per day have been cancelled since Monday.
The Hospital Corporation says it will provide updates on the situation as more details become available, and had previously stressed that there is no risk to patients that had undergone surgeries before the current issue arose.
