WHITEHORSE, YT -The Yukon’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Brendan Hanley says he’d like to see a change of leadership in the Liberal Party of Canada, but he’s not calling for Justin Trudeau to resign as Prime Minister.
“What I’m asking is that the Prime Minister choose a time to step down as leader as the party, not to resign as Prime Minister.” – The Yukon’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Brendan Hanley
MP Hanley says, he’d like to see a decision made by the time Parliament resumes in the New Year, or at the very least, ahead of the next election. He adds, he’s offered advice to the Prime Minster indicating that he should consider it.
“People want to see a change in leadership, and I’ve asked him to reflect on that.” – The Yukon’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Brendan Hanley
According to Hanley, it appears Trudeau has taken the message to heart, and is reflecting on his next course of action in the aftermath of Chrystia Freeland’s resignation as Finance Minister.
“I know that he is in deep reflection, and that’s sort of what I sense intuitively. I think… I would like to just give him the time to really reflect on the future. I believe that we need to see a leadership change, really the next steps will be, I think, determined over the next few days, potentially the weeks over the break, but I think we need to see a decision by the time we get back to Parliament.” – The Yukon’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Brendan Hanley
While MP Hanley says he would rather not see an early election take place, he did confirm he is planning to run again for the role of the Yukon’s Member of Parliament when the next election is called.
Ultimately, the decision rests with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself as to weather or not to step down as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.
