WHITEHORSE, YT – The Yukon’s Communicable Disease Control has confirmed a case of whooping cough on a recent Air North Flight from Whitehorse to Vancouver on November 6th
The Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says the case was confirmed on Air North Flight 4N543, which departed Whitehorse for Vancouver on November 6th.
Passengers of this flight are advised to monitor for symptoms of whooping cough, which may emerge 7 to 10 days after exposure. Symptoms range from mild cold-like symptoms to severe coughing fits that could last weeks. Whooping cough can pose a serious risk to vulnerable groups, but it is manageable with antibiotics.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health says those seated in rows 17 though 22 may have a greater risk of exposure, and any high-risk individuals who had traveled in these seats should contact their healthcare provider or the Yukon Communicable Disease Control Centre for advice on antibiotics.
