Whitehorse, YT – Swaths of southern Yukon are forecast to see significant snowfall starting on Tuesday morning and lasting through Wednesday afternoon.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning and expects snowfall totals between 20 to 30 centimetres in Whitehorse, Pelly-Carmacks, Faro-Ross River and White Pass.
Between 10 to 20 centimetres of snowfall is expected in Haines Junction and Chilkat Pass and a snowfall warning is in effect.
Environment Canada says heavy snowfall mixed with blowing and drifting snow will likely lead to reduced visibility.
Particularly windy conditions near Chilkat Pass could worsen visibility further.
Drivers are being advised to travel with caution as rapidly accumulating snow may cause hazardous travel conditions.
Public Safety Canada recommends having an emergency kit with essential items like water, food and first aid supplies in vehicles.
