WHITEHORSE, YT – The Yukon Coroner’s service has announced 6 more recent deaths in the Territory have been linked to toxic illicit drugs.
All six cases took place over an 11 day period between September 23rd and October 4th. The Coroner’s Service warns these cases do not appear linked in any way, indicating that toxic illicit drugs are currently circulating in city of Whitehorse.
Of the 4 deaths confirmed to be caused by toxic drugs, all 4 occurred in Whitehorse, and all involved the use of cocaine.
Within these 4 cases, toxicology tests reveled Fentanyl was also detected in 3 of the cases, Flurofentanyl in two, Bromazolam in two, with Alcohol use involved in one.
Two other deaths within the same timespan are suspected to have been causes by toxic drugs. Toxicology reports for these cases are pending.
So far this year, 12 deaths have been confirmed, and 2 other are suspected to have been caused by toxic drugs in the Yukon, with all but one taking place in Whitehorse, and the majority of cases involving cocaine and opioids.
