Whitehorse, YT – Two men were arrested after a large police operation near Fourth Avenue on Monday and several firearms have been recovered after they were stolen from G & R Pawnbrokers in Porter Creek earlier that morning.
The two men were identified as Christopher Darryl Munch, 47, and Robert Martin Suffesick, 37.
On Monday, September 23rd, at roughly 5:17 a.m. Whitehorse RCMP received reports of a vehicle collision. On scene, police determined that the vehicle was deliberately driven into G & R Pawn Shop to break in. Firearms were believed to have been stolen.
The vehicle left abandoned at the scene was determined to be stolen and was seized for forensic analysis.
As part of the investigation, Whitehorse RCMP located and arrested both men near Fourth Avenue, Strickland and Black Street without incident. The area was cordoned off and a hold and secure protocol was implemented at nearby schools and daycares as a precaution.
Both Munch and Suffesick have been jointly charged with multiple offenses including property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and unsafe storage of a firearm.
Christopher Munch also faces additional charges related to failing to comply with a release order. He had three outstanding unendorsed warrants which were executed at the time of his arrest.
