Whitehorse, YT – With Raven ReCentre no longer accepting paper and packaging it may be a bit confusing to figure out where to take your recycling now but there are services available before Extended Producer Responsibility comes into effect.
On September 15th, Raven stopped collecting non-refundables which include paper and packaging, office paper, cardboard, plastic packaging, tin cans and food containers.
The City’s Waste Management Facility now operates a temporary Recycling Depot that will take those items.
There is a drop-off fee of $1 per bag or container with a max volume being 90 litres.
Raven ReCentre’s bottle depot is still open and they will still accept refundable recycling, E-waste, metals, textiles and glass.
P & M Recycling also accepts all refundable beverage containers, cardboard, tin, paper and plastic.
This December, the City of Whitehorse will be starting a temporary curbside recycling program that will be run by Blue Bin Recycling. That program will cover residents currently eligible for curbside collection service.
The temporary curbside service will end when EPR takes effect and the producers of recyclables become responsible for recycling services.
You can find additional information at the City of Whitehorse’s Recycling Sorting Guide or Raven ReCentre’s website.
