Whitehorse, YT – Former MLA for Porter Creek Centre Paolo Gallina announced he will be running for a councillor position on the Whitehorse city council in the upcoming municipal election.
In an email sent to CKRW, Gallina outlines numerous priorities he plans to focus on including downtown safety, supporting local business and enhancing active transportation routes and public transit.
“I’m running for Whitehorse City Council because I believe in the potential of our community,” reads the email. “I am committed to fostering economic growth, improving public safety, enhancing public services, and ensuring that every voice is heard. My goal is to work collaboratively with community stakeholders to create a vibrant, inclusive, and safe community.”
Gallina has a background in the private sector and public administration, having served as a Yukon Liberal MLA from 2016 until his defeat in the 2021 Yukon general election.
Before politics, Gallina was the Community Investment Manager at Northwestel and served as Marketing Manager for the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse.
Gallina is a longtime resident of Whitehorse, who lives with his wife Sarah, their four daughters and Gallina’s father.
The Whitehorse municipal election is on October 17th.
