WHITEHORSE, YT – The Yukon RCMP have released details on a series of incidents in Whitehorse dating back to January of last year, that involved an extensive police investigation with multiple departments and jurisdictions.
RCMP say on January 24th, 2023 at 10pm, they received a call from a resident in Whitehorse who had reported they had discovered a bullet in their living room and a hole in the wall. The caller believed the bullet to have passed through the wall from the adjacent residence.
A search warrant was then executed, where it was discovered that the adjacent home had been broken into earlier that day and its occupant assaulted by two armed, masked men. RCMP say the victim was being assaulted with a handgun when the gun went off. RCMP believe the home invasion and subsequent assault were targeted, and that it was related to another incident from earlier that same day.
At 4:26am on January 24th, 2023, Whitehorse RCMP had been dispatched to a two vehicle collusion at the intersection of two mile hill and the Alaska Highway involving a white Dodge Ram and a a City dump truck. The occupants of the Dodge Ram had fled the scene on foot, while the driver of the dump truck reported to police that one of the occupants appeared to be carrying a firearm. With assistance from the Police Dog Service, the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team tracked the suspects to the Canada Games Center, where the men were believed to have picked up by a waiting vehicle.
Following a lengthy investigation, Lorne Ryan-MacKinnon was arrested and charged in Whitehorse on February 16th this year relating to the incidents. He’s facing a number of charges including Break and Enter of a Dwelling House, Kidnapping while using a Restricted Firearm, Assault with a Weapon, Break and Enter of a Dwelling House, and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
A second suspect, Dalton Prasloski was arrested by Victoria Police on April 22nd this year and was later returned to the Yukon by the RCMP.
Prasloski has also been charged in relation to the incident, and is facing many of the same charges as Lorne Ryan-MacKinnon, with the exception of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance.
Both matters are still before the courts, and both men had been released with court order conditions. Both men had been arrested again over the course of May and June for failure to comply violations.
Prasloski remains in custody, while Ryan-MacKinnon has been released this week for time served for the compliance violation.
