Whitehorse, YT – Three suspects were taken into custody following an armed robbery turned high-speed getaway in the Granger area on Monday afternoon and the Whitehorse RCMP say they are still investigating.
Police have identified the suspects as Tyrell Sidney, Nathan Ouimet and Kody Smith.
RCMP says Sidney has faced similar charges related to numerous stolen vehicles, stolen property and flights from police on numerous occasions.
At around 1:10 p.m. police were first alerted to a vehicle that was stolen from Cobalt Construction on Range Road driving at high speeds and fleeing police. RCMP believed there was more than one person involved.
Shortly after, at 2:30 p.m. RCMP received a call about an armed robbery in progress at Heather’s Haven Convenience store in Porter Creek with the same vehicle involved. Two armed, masked individuals entered the store and demanded cash from the till while the third suspect stood outside. The suspects then fled the scene at dangerous speeds nearly causing several collisions around Whitehorse.
RCMP deployed a spike trip which deflated the tires on the vehicle however the driver refused to stop. After police disabled the vehicle they apprehended two of the suspects with the third fleeing on foot. The third suspect was captured after fleeing another previously reported stolen vehicle near Squatters Road on foot.
