WHITEHORSE, YT – The Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon have announced the addition of two of their executive members to Russia’s list of Sanctioned Canadians, following their most recent Yukon to Ukraine aid mission.
UCAY President Jeff Sloychuk, and UCAY Vice President Eileen Melnychuk, now find themselves on the official Russian list of sanctioned Canadians, joining the likes of Yukon’s Premier Ranj Pillai, Yukon MP Brendan Hanley, and Senator Pat Duncan.
CKRW caught up with Jeff Sloychuk as he touched down in Toronto, on his return journey from Ukraine, were he reflected on his addition to the list.
‘You know, it’s an honor just to be nominated. I’d like to give thanks to the Yukon community and especially to my fellow Ukrainian Canadian Association of Yukon members for this incredible honor shown by the Russian Federation. You know, I’m in good company and I wear it with a badge of honor and pride. I’m just surprised they haven’t added everybody else from Ukrainian Canadian Association, but I’m sure they’ll have their turn, their time in the sun, to be added to this illustrious list of enemies of the state of Russia.’ – Jeff Sloychuk, Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon President
The pair’s addition to the sanctioned list means they’re now denied future entry to the Russian Federation, and as Jeff Sloychuk says, their continued support for Ukraine has essentially made them enemies of the Russian State.
The Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon will be back with another fundraiser on May 3rd, this time Ukrainian Jazz Vibes.
