WHITEHORSE, YT – Employees of the Yukon Hospital Corporation, represented by the Yukon Employee’s Union Local Y025, have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike mandate.
The Yukon Employee’s Union says workers have been working without a contract since September of 2022, and that the Union’s bargaining team has been engaged in negotiations for over 8 months, having previously sought conciliation on November 28th last year.
The YEU’s bargaining team is engaged in conciliation this week, according to a release from the Union.
Yukon Employee’s Union President Justin Lemphers says this vote sends a clear message to the Yukon Hospital Corporation that they must come to the negotiation table with a fair deal for their employees.
Update, March 4th – As of March 1st, the Yukon Employee’s Union and the YHC have reached a tentative deal with changes expected to take place in the coming days.
