Whitehorse, YT – Over the last couple of days florists at In Bloom Flowers in downtown Whitehorse have been working extra hard preparing for the rush of last-minute orders and walk-in customers that the annual day of love brings to their business.
Crystal Rose, owner of In Bloom Flowers, says that Valentine’s Day is a very “last-minute holiday” and that although the shop has been prepping dozens of online orders earlier this week they expect the walk-in traffic today to be huge. In Bloom began prepping for today in mid-January by ordering flowers, pre-greening vases, and organizing additional supplies to meet the high demand.
When it comes to the big sellers Rose says, “Red roses are number one, but dyed roses are making a huge comeback right now. Unique varieties such as blue, rainbow, and black roses are particularly sought after this year.”
In addition to a wide array of rose bouquets, In Bloom partnered with Klondike Cakes to offer a diverse selection of chocolates and cookies due to the prices of roses sharply rising during the holiday.
For customers who are seeking the perfect bouquet for their partner, Rose says that it’s already too late, and that ordering ahead is best because what’s sold today is whatever is left in the coolers.
Looking beyond the anticipated rush today Rose expects to see quite a few post-holiday sales as well as some customers seeking to make amends.
“There’s a lot of ‘oops, I forgot,'” Rose laughs. “The store will have a hangover the day after Valentine’s.”
