WHITEHORSE, YT – The Whitehorse General Hospital has announced its currently experiencing higher than normal demand in its Emergency Department and Inpatient units. As a result, wait times in the Emergency Room will be longer than usual.
A press release from the Yukon Hospital Corporation says they’re currently coordinating a system-wide response with the Yukon Government and the Yukon Medical Association to try an ease the pressure and ensure medical services remain accessible.
EMS staff have been deployed to work alongside hospital employees, and adaptive spaces for patient care have been implemented.
The YHC says if you require urgent care, don’t hesitate to visit the Emergency Department or call 911 if necessary. For non-emergency situations, you should call your Primary Healthcare Provider first, while those without a family doctor should contact the Whitehorse Walk-in Clinic on Quartz Road.
The Whitehorse Walk-in Clinic has extended it’s operating hours to include this Thursday and Friday, from 9am to 4pm, to better serve those without access to Primary Healthcare Providers. The Clinic will be reviewing the situation at Whitehorse General early next week, and will be adapting it’s operating hours as needed.
In the meantime, the 811 Healthline is available around the clock for health advice from a Registered Nurse.
