After performing search warrant in the Takhini Hot Springs Road area, one male suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants
WHITEHORSE – RCMP had their guns drawn in the Takhini Hot Springs Area as they arrested a known criminal with many outstanding warrants.
In the morning hours of August 24, 2023, the RCMP executed a search warrant in the Takhini Hot Springs Road area in connection to a shooting that happened on July 10, 2023. The investigation and reaction were aided by members of the Whitehorse Detachment, Whitehorse General Investigation Section, Yukon RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, Emergency Reaction Team, and Police Dog Services.
Taylor Duke was detained as a consequence of the search warrant and appeared in court on August 24, 2023. Taylor Duke was accused of the following charges, among others:
- Attempted Murder with a Firearm, Criminal Code, Section 239 (1);
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Code, Section 92 (1);
- Disobeying a Court Order, Criminal Code, Section 117.01; and
- Carrying a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Code, Section 94.
Prior to Duke’s arrest, Duke had outstanding arrest warrants since he hadn’t shown up for court in December 2022 and March 2023. Duke was in court for the following charges for which he has previously been charged:
- Conspiracy to commit indictable offence, Criminal Code, S.465(1)(c), four counts;
- Participate in Criminal Organization, Criminal Code, S.467.11(1);
- Commit Offence for Criminal Organization, Criminal Code, S. 467.12(1);
- Fail to Comply with Release Order, Criminal Code, S. 145(5), five counts;
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime, Criminal Code, S.354(1);
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA, S.5(2);
- Intimidation, Criminal Code, S.423, two counts;
- And more
Police say this is a complex investigation and expect more charges to be laid on Duke related to his arrest.
