YUKON – Team Yukon is continuing to push throw another busy day at the 2023 North America Indigenous Games.
So far Team Yukon has had a busy first few days at the 2023 NAIG with one bronze medal being awarded to Prezley Jobin in the Canoe/Kayak MC1 3000m U16 Female event and another tentative silver medal won by Jorga Jackson in 3P U16 Rifle Shooting.
On the court, basketball athlete Arlo James Walker says his coach is helping the team get ready for games in whatever way he can and training is all part of the experience and fun of the games.
“We only had one practice because pretty much all the gyms in town are being used for sports but he’s kind of letting us in let me try and get all the guys out and get all the guys together, get some shots up or go do something to stay active. It’s awesome. We’re staying at a university here. So we all have our own rooms and we have a shared bathroom so it’s pretty good”
James-Walker adds that after narrowly losing the first game, he will look to lead and grow with his team during the games.
“I think we’re going to come out stronger and come out a lot more confident in our next game today, trying to lock in every game and I’m trying to get my teammates as hyped up and as confident as they can be. And that’s what I’m here to do. I’ve been around basketball for a long time and I could say I know a lot about the sport, but I’m also learning and I’m trying my best to give my teammates all that I can”
