With the Yukon legislature poised to return this week, Currie Dixon has inflation on his mind
Yukon Party leader Currie Dixon says the party is prepared for the start of a new sitting of the territorial legislature.
He says inflation and the cost of living is at the forefront of his concerns.
The government resumes sitting on Thursday afternoon.
Dixon says “myself and my team has spent the spring and summer touring the Yukon, meeting with Yukon communities and stakeholder groups and generally engaging with Yukoners”
“And while there are a lot of serious issues facing the Yukon, it’s become clear to me that the dramatically increasing cost of living is the issue that is top of mind for just about every single Yukoner, the price of gas has reached historic levels, the price of groceries has skyrocketed. And that’s putting real pressure on young families that are trying to get by so unfortunately, though, the government has been out of touch with Yukoners on this and is simply not taking a leadership role in addressing the problem.”
“We’ve been pressing them for, you know, over the significantly over the past year to try to take some action and at every opportunity, they’ve declined or dismissed or suggestions as gimmicks and parlor tricks. And then of course, a week before the legislature resumes and knowing that they would face criticism for ignoring this, they’ve panicked and thrown a few things out there. But ultimately, it’s very clear that they don’t have a plan for this and that they are not taking the cost of living crisis seriously.”
Dixon added “And that very much shows that they’re out of touch with most Yukoners. So that’s going to be a huge issue for us this the sitting,”
